SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE represents ideas that are widely accepted throughout the scientific community. It is the result of continuous study, testing, debate, and confirmation of these ideas. Scientific explanations must be based on the EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE, the cumulative body of observations on a scientific topic. They must also stand up to scientific confirmation. If new evidence emerges that does not fit within the current scientific explanation, the explanation must be changed to fit ALL of the evidence. This is what makes scientific knowledge "durable".
